AWARDS

Since its founding in 1948 as the Dad's Association, Texas Parents, the Parents' Association of The University of Texas at Austin, has been an important part of the life and culture of The University. The Constitution of the Parents' Association states that one of the objectives of the organization shall be "to recognize and honor outstanding University students, faculty, and staff as appropriate through scholarships, awards, and endowments."

It is with great pleasure that Texas Parents continues in this important work and announces that beginning Tuesday, August 30, nominations will be accepted for the 2011 Outstanding Student Awards, the Mike Wacker Award, and the Staff Merit Awards.

Nomination forms for each category include an "Overview and Instructions" page. Please read this information carefully and follow ALL of the instructions listed to ensure your nomination is considered.

All nominations must be submitted via email. THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED: midnight, Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Late applications will not be considered.

Outstanding Students Awards

This year marks the 60th anniversary of The Outstanding Student Awards. Each year, since 1951, Texas Parents has proudly honored a male and female Outstanding Student recipient and four Outstanding Student finalists (two males and two females) who demonstrate exceptional leadership, scholarship, character, and service. A list of past recipients can be found below. The Outstanding Student Award recipients will receive a plaque, a Lifetime membership in Texas Exes, and have a brick paver laid at the Student Services Building in their honor. Award recipients and finalists will be presented at the November 4, 2011 Celebration of Leadership Dinner. Award recipients will be further recognized at a field presentation to be held during the November 5th home football game.

Mike Wacker Award

Texas Parents established the Mike Wacker Award in 1985 to honor former Longhorn basketball player, Mike Wacker, who through personal courage and sacrifice, returned to competition after a serious knee injury. The award has been a symbol of courage and perseverance in the face of adversity. A list of past recipients can be found below. This award is not necessarily given each year. Recipients will be given a plaque and recognized at the November 4, 2011 Celebration of Leadership Dinner.

Staff Merit Award Program

Texas Parents established the Staff Merit Award Program in 1998 to recognize individuals who work in the Division of Student Affairs. The award celebrates the recipients who reflect the diversity of services provided by the division as well as the varied and unique professional experiences of the division's staff. A list of past recipients can be found below. Recipients will receive a plaque and a $1,000 award from Texas Parents at the November 4, 2011 Celebration of Leadership Dinner.
