Texas Exes
On June 17, 1885, 34 new graduates of the two-year-old University of Texas organized the UT Alumni Association, later renamed The Ex-Students’ Association. Though they carry it out in a hundred different ways, the Texas Exes mission is simple: To unite, inform and involve alumni and friends for the purpose of promoting, protecting and preserving The University of Texas. Driving anywhere in Texas and around the country, you’ve probably seen cars sporting the Texas Exes window sticker. It’s powerful. It’s orange. It’s proud! When you see someone with one of these beauties, you know you’re driving next to a fellow Longhorn. But these stickers do more than discourage road rage. When you’ve got one on your car, you let everyone know that you’re a member of an important organization that really makes a difference. Whether it’s through scholarships, teaching awards, career services, The ALCALDE magazine, or just plain fun (like hosting the world’s biggest tailgate party before every home football game), the Texas Exes exists to support The University of Texas.
Tiff's Treats
In January of 1999, two University of Texas students started Tiff's Treats. Originally, the students ran the business in the evening while attending school during the day. Since the service became popular with students, Tiff's Treats expanded full time in June 2001 to serve offices and Austin residents, as well as UT students and parents. In September 2006, Tiff's Treats opened their first Dallas location in downtown Dallas. Tiff's Treats' expansion plans include opening future locations throughout Texas. The cookies are baked when you order, so they arrive warm and delicious, right out of the oven!
UT Cactus Yearbook
The Cactus Yearbook is in its 115th year of publication, making it the oldest publication at The University of Texas at Austin. For over a century, they have not only documented the history of the University but also the college experience. They show how the campus has grown from its original 40 acres when it consisted of one building, eight teachers, two departments and 221 students to a campus of over 350 acres, 50,000 students and more than 20,000 faculty and staff. With their photography, they try to document a campus that is not only the largest in the country but one that is as diverse as it is beautiful. With more than 775 organizations on campus, including more than 50 sororities and fraternities, students have the opportunity to find a place where he or she can feel at home. The Cactus is the timekeeper of traditions: Bevo, Torchlight Parades, Hex Rallies, Big 12 Championships and the lighting of the Tower. They are all part of what makes UT so unique, and they are all highlighted each year in the Cactus Yearbook.
